Head of Design & Fit-Out (Selangor Region)

Job Purpose

The HOD-Design & Fit-Out Services (Selangor Region) is responsible for overall operations and performance of the Design & Fit-Out Services department, ensuring that all practices are in accordance with company and department policies.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Governs and ensures that submitted designs and final outcomes across all REIT and non-REIT mall assets under Sunway Malls comply with the Design & Fit-Out SOP, as well as the latest ISO standards and requirements.

2. Formulates and updates fit-out guidelines, and ensures compliance by tenants throughout the entire fit-out process, including the pre- and post-fit-out periods.

3. Researches and monitors emerging interior design trends to stay abreast of developments in the retail environment.

4. Leads and monitors team performance to ensure tenant fit-out progress aligns with mall requirements and shop opening schedules.

5. Drives team development by providing coaching to enhance the DFS team’s performance and addresses disciplinary matters as required.

6. Studies, investigates and resolves operational provisioning issues in a cost-effective and timely manner.

7. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal departments and tenants to facilitate the timely and efficient opening of shops.

8. Strategizes and proposes enhancements to existing mall common area interior design where applicable, to uplift and improve the quality of space and zones.

9. Oversees mall expansion projects, working closely with consultants and project teams when necessary.

10. Participates in new mall openings and provides consultation support on related projects.

11. Adheres to the company’s safety protocols and guidelines at all times, and understands and strictly complies with the Occupational Safety & Health policy outlined in the Sunway Staff Handbook.

12. Understands and applies all policies implemented by Sunway regarding any personal data received, used, transmitted, processed, or stored.

13. Ensures that personal data is not disclosed to any unauthorised third party without obtaining clearance from the Information Manager or the PDP Officer.

15. Complies with all Sunway policies related to the Act and assists the Information Manager in all personal data protection matters.

16. Ensures that consent is obtained from data subjects whenever personal data is collected, and that the personal data protection notice is always served to data subjects upon collection.

17. Ensures that all personal data is protected from any physical damage and from unauthorised access, alteration, removal, or destruction in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Security Policy.

18. Reports any actual or suspected data security breach or violation to the Information Manager as soon as possible.

19.Provides full co-operation to the PDP Officer during internal audits or investigations.

20. Integrates green building standards and sustainable materials in fit-out projects.

21. Ensures Design & Fit Out Department policies and practices align with the company's quality, safety, health, and environmental policies, fostering a safe and sustainable workplace.

22. Secures storage and handling of tenant and vendor data in compliance with PDPA.

Requirement :

1.Bachelor’s degree Minimum Bachelor Degree or Professional Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or equivalent.

2.5 or more years of Design & Fit-Out experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

3. Proven track record in strategic mall design management, tenant fit-out planning, and retail space optimisation.

4. Strong background in design compliance, interior architecture, project coordination, and stakeholder management.

5. Knowledgeable on current design trends, preferably in retail or commercial designs.

6, Standard office hours with occasional travel.

7. May require extended hours during peak periods.

8. Occasional need to inspect and oversee on-site work.

9. Requires extended screen time and desk work, with moderate walking around mall premises.
