What’s The Role
The Legal Counsel Supply Chain sits within the Legal Services Integrated Gas team, supporting Supply Chain organisation and reporting to Managing Counsel, Supply Chain.
Supply Chain is an end to end business, generating value for shareholders via delivery of non-hydrocarbon goods and services to Shell’s global businesses and assets, partnering with Shell Businesses to manage $42bn of non-hydrocarbon spend across c.22,000 contracts p/a.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Legal Counsel, Supply Chain will provide professional, timely, cost effective and practical legal advice and support to the Supply Chain organization, across the Shell value chain. The role requires an enthusiastic experienced commercial lawyer, with an interest in understanding, supporting and working closely with businesses across the end-to-end value chain.
In particular, the Legal Counsel, Supply Chain will provide legal support for i) legal advice around macro events (e.g. wars, tariffs) ii) high value, high risk contracts iii) supplier claims/ pre dispute contract management and iv) digitalization and continuous improvement programmes.
This role works primarily with the Supply Chain business supporting the mobility and lubricants businesses in China. The role also provides support for other global Supply Chain work as required.

The core elements of the role involve:
- Providing legal advice- ensuring that legal considerations, including mitigation of legal risks, are considered in operations, planning activities and contracting
- Negotiating and drafting high risk and high value contracts and other legal documentation
- Advising on proposed commercial strategies including resolving commercial differences in both Chinese and English language.
- Proposing initiatives to enable and drive digitalisation agenda and continuous improvement in the efficiency of legal support.
- Deliver trainings to Supply Chain on specific legal areas of concern including contract trainings and ethics & compliance trainings.
- Law degree or professional legal qualification and entitlement to practice in Malaysia/China/UK
- Fluent written and spoken Chinese language skills.
- 8-10+ PQE in an in-house or law firm environment.
- Experience of providing legal support to Supply Chain/procurement business (or equivalent) is ideal.
- Ability to clearly explain legal risks, develop sound mitigation strategies and find acceptable commercial solutions.
- Experience in creating and delivering optimisation and change management programs would be beneficial.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Legal excellence through strong analytical and problem-solving capability, high quality drafting skills balanced with appropriate risk tolerance and commercial awareness.
- Understands commercial drivers and frames advice that enables business outcomes while protecting Shell’s licence to operate.
- Maximizing performance by prioritizing high value, high risk work, and using digital tools to improve efficiency and reduce low value activity.
- Digital fluency and AI-readiness are critical; must demonstrate confidence in adopting technologies, and using AI tools to enhance quality, speed and consistency of legal support.
- One Team mindset, operating collaboratively across boundaries, functions, and geographies, sharing knowledge, and contributing proactively to Legal’s collective performance.
