Position Description

We are seeking a Project Automation & Platforms Engineer to develop, maintain, and continuously improve web-based digital tools that increase the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of solar PV preconstruction and engineering workflows.

This role sits at the intersection of solar engineering and software development. The engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of the company’s internal preconstruction software, from gathering requirements with engineers and building new features, through to deployment, user support, and ongoing improvement.

The tools developed support the preconstruction workflow end to end. The role draws on GIS, data processing, AI-assisted document intelligence, and engineering automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Development Software Development
• Design, develop, and deploy new features and web-based digital tools for the preconstruction and engineering teams.
• Work with engineers and project teams to gather requirements and convert manual engineering methods into repeatable, automated software workflows.
• Solar PV Engineering Automation
• Develop tools that automate solar PV design tasks for commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftop and ground-mounted projects.
• Support the automation of electrical engineering calculations and design outputs.
• PV Layout & Design Tools
• Develop and maintain web-based PV layout and design tools.
• Implement PV module placement and layout optimisation algorithms.
• Process and work with geospatial and design data, including:
• GeoTIFF and satellite imagery
• Digital elevation models (DEM)
• CAD drawings (DWG/DXF)
• GIS vector data
• Coordinate reference systems (CRS)
• System Maintenance, Support & Continuous Improvement
• Maintain, support, and continuously improve internally developed engineering and preconstruction software systems.
• Monitor the operational health, availability, and performance of deployed applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the full application stack, including frontend, backend/API, database, file and document processing, AI/RAG services, cloud infrastructure, and external system integrations.
• Gather user feedback and deliver iterative improvements to usability and performance.
• Cloud & Application Infrastructure
• Deploy and support Python/FastAPI applications in Azure cloud environments.
• Manage source control and release workflows using Git/GitHub, and containerised environments using Docker.
• Ensure applications operate correctly in multi-replica, horizontally scaled environments.
• Integrate preconstruction tools with enterprise systems and external services.
  

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in one or more of the following:
• Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering
• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining web-based applications, ideally in an engineering or renewable energy environment.
  

Technical Skills

• Strong experience or demonstrated capability in several of the following:
• Programming- Python, SQL
• Web Development- FastAPI, RESTful API design, HTML/CSS
• Cloud & DevOps- Microsoft Azure, Docker, Git/GitHub
• Solar Engineering- PV system design for C&I rooftop and ground-mounted projects, Fundamental electrical engineering knowledge
• AI / Data- OCR, LLMs, RAG, Embeddings
