Title: Senior Accountant, Leases

The Senior Accountant, Leases is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely accounting, reporting, and compliance with ASC 842 / IFRS 16. Primarily, the role plays a key part in ensuring the integrity of lease data in supporting month end actuals, financial audits, and contributing to process improvements across the lease accounting end-to-end cycle. This position reports to the Manager, Accounting based in Malaysia. This role is hybrid with 3 days in the office, based in Kuala Lumpur.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain lease data, ensuring records are complete, accurate, and up to date
  • Manage monthly valuation models for the lease portfolio, including ROU asset and lease liability calculations under ASC 842 / IFRS 16.
  • Prepare lease journals and general ledger postings.
  • Assist with lease disclosures for financial reporting.
  • Provide documentation and analysis for audits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal, Procurement, FP&A) to identify and capture new lease contracts.
  • Support audit requests, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Update lease schedules when terms change (amendments, renewals, terminations).
  • Drive process improvements and ensure compliance with lease accounting standards and internal controls.
  • Assist with Fixed Asset tasks when needed (e.g., Capex posting, Reconciliations, capitalization support).
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks as and when needed.

What you'll need

  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience, with direct, hands-on experience in lease accounting and fixed asset accounting in the data center, real estate, retail, logistics, healthcare, or multi-site operations preferred (industries with large lease/fixed asset volume) industry
  • Working knowledge of ASC 842 / IFRS 16 lease accounting standards.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and depreciation methods.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite or Oracle) and Advanced Excel skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Inquisitive, curious mind, able to work independently in a supportive team
  • Inclined to drive continuous process improvement
  • Strong attention to details and analytical skills
  • Strong communications skills with proficiency in English, other languages are highly desired.
