Role And Responsibilities
- Regional Electrical Leadership: Provide regional technical leadership and governance for electrical infrastructure across Southeast Asia data center operations. Drive consistency in engineering standards, operational practices, maintenance strategies, risk management across the regional portfolio.
- Electrical Infrastructure Operations: Provide technical oversight for the operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of critical electrical infrastructure, including utility intake systems, HV/MV/LV distribution, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, generators, UPS systems, batteries, STS, PDU/RPP, busway, earthing systems, and electrical monitoring platforms.
- Technical Support: Act as the regional Electrical SME and escalation point for complex electrical issues and critical incidents. Provide advanced technical support to site operations teams for protection trips, electrical faults, UPS and generator abnormalities, switching events, power quality issues, equipment failures, degraded operating modes, and other conditions that may impact data center availability.
- Reliability and Risk Management: Drive electrical system reliability and availability through preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies. Analyze equipment health, performance data, alarms, and failure trends; lead RCA’s for incidents; and ensure corrective and preventive actions and lessons learned are implemented consistently across the region.
- Standards and Governance: Develop Operational standards – switching standards, Maintenance standards, BOD and Maintenance play book.
- Commissioning and Handover: Support commissioning, energization, IST, operational readiness reviews, and handover from project delivery to operations.
- Electrical Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations, permit to work, lockout/tagout, arc flash controls, electrical safety procedures, and DayOne operational risk requirements.
- Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve power reliability, energy efficiency, PUE, power quality, load utilization, redundancy, and lifecycle cost.
- Vendor and Contractor Management: Coordinate with Internal stake holders, OEMs, service providers, consultants, and contractors to ensure maintenance quality, safe execution, and timely issue resolution.
- Regional Capability Building: Coach site teams, share best practices, and build regional competency in electrical operations, switching discipline, UPS/generator systems, protection coordination, and incident response.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 8-12 years of experience in electrical engineering, facilities operations, or critical infrastructure, preferably in data centers or mission-critical environments.
- Demonstrated experience as a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the complete electrical infrastructure lifecycle, from Utility/Grid Interface (HV/EHV), Substations, MV distribution, transformers, protection systems, standby generation, UPS systems, through to LV distribution and critical loads. Strong knowledge of MV/LV power distribution, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, generators, UPS, batteries, STS, PDU/RPP, busway, earthing, and electrical monitoring systems.
- Deep technical expertise in:
- Utility interfaces, HV/MV substations, GIS/AIS switchgear, RMUs, LV switchboards, busbar/busduct systems, system configurations, redundancy architectures, switching philosophy, and operational failure modes.
- Protection philosophies, numerical relays/IEDs, protection coordination and selectivity, relay settings, fault analysis, interlocking and control schemes, IEC 61850, SCADA/EPMS integration, and arc flash assessment and mitigation.
- Power transformers, busduct systems, generators, synchronizing systems, ATS/STS, UPS, battery technologies, PDUs/RPPs, grounding/earthing and lightning protection.
- Experience with critical electrical facility architectures, switching operations, commissioning, energization, and operational readiness.
- Proven experience leading complex incident response, performing advanced fault diagnosis, protection system analysis, forensic Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and driving permanent corrective and preventive actions across regional operations.
- Strong understanding of international standards and industry best practices, including IEC, IEEE, NFPA 70/70E, as well as local electrical regulations across Southeast Asia. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel across South East Asia to support site operations, audits, commissioning, incident response, and technical reviews.
