Senior Product Engineer

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• NPI & Product Transfer: Manage the lifecycle of new transceiver and optical product transfers from original R&D sites into high-volume manufacturing, ensuring successful transition to production.
• Yield & Cost Optimization: Conduct data-driven analysis to troubleshoot yield issues, identify root causes, optimize test processes and test time, and drive initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs.
• Engineering Changes & Documentation: Initiate and support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), manage Bill of Materials (BOM) changes, and develop comprehensive troubleshooting and debug guides.
• Testing & Manufacturing Support: Support pilot manufacturing lines during product assembly, testing, qualification, and implementation of new systems, equipment, and test processes.
• RMA & Customer Support: Provide technical analysis and root-cause investigation for product-related field issues and Return Merchandise
• Authorizations (RMAs), and provide engineering support during customer qualification cycles.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Operations, Quality,
• Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to ensure successful product introduction and production readiness.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process and product improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency, product quality, reliability, yield, and overall operational performance.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and cross-functional team members on product, manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  
  

Education & Experience

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in product engineering, manufacturing engineering, NPI, or a related engineering function, preferably within the optical communications, photonics, semiconductor, or electronics industry.
• Experience in new product introduction (NPI), product transfer, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Experience with optical transceivers, optical components, photonics products, or related technologies is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in yield improvement, root-cause analysis, process optimization, and manufacturing cost reduction.
• Experience supporting engineering changes, BOM management, product documentation, and customer qualification activities.
  
  

Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret manufacturing and test data and identify root causes.
• Strong understanding of product development, NPI, manufacturing processes, testing, and product qualification.
• Proficient in data analysis and statistical problem-solving tools; experience with Python, JMP, Minitab, or similar tools is an advantage.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Leadership capabilities to lead cross-functional or virtual teams and drive technical projects to completion.
• Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and enjoy the process of problem-solving.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other members of Coherent Corp. across different functions and geographical locations.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  
  

Working Conditions

• This role is 100% onsite and requires regular interaction with manufacturing and engineering teams.
• May require occasional travel to other Coherent Corp. facilities, R&D sites, suppliers, or customer locations.
• May require flexibility to support production activities, product transfers, qualifications, and urgent manufacturing issues.
