Summary/Objective
The Shift Technician is the on‑shift technical role responsible for ensuring safe, stable and consistent operation of critical electrical, mechanical, cooling, controls and life-safety systems. The role provides elevated technical capability, supports first-response incident actions, verifies plant condition after maintenance or resets, and executing operational tasks with accuracy and discipline. This position supports STACK’s 100% uptime commitment through strong operational judgement, trend awareness, structured troubleshooting and the ability to stabilise plant conditions within authorised boundaries. The Shift Technician also enhances shift performance by coaching team members, refining documentation quality and maintaining a concierge‑level customer service approach in all interactions with customers, visitors and stakeholders.

Essential Functions – Critical Operations
- Support STACK’s 100% uptime objective through disciplined operational control, proactive monitoring and accurate technical response.
- Maintain real-time awareness of plant condition through BMS/EPMS, alarms and inspections, taking timely actions within authorised limits.
- Provide and assisting the shift ‘s Team with prioritisation, procedural clarity and execution quality.
- Operate and monitor critical electrical and/or mechanical systems (UPS, PDUs, switchboards, generators, CRAC/CRAH, CDU/FWU, chilled water systems, pumps and associated plant) strictly within approved procedures and authorisations.
- Perform structured diagnostics on abnormal conditions, apply permitted stabilisation actions and escalate with clear technical detail and recommended next steps.
- Support operational event response, including immediate containment actions, technical communication and accurate event documentation.
- Conduct enhanced rounds including thermal, capacity, vibration/noise, leak detection and set‑point verification, ensuring findings are recorded and actioned.
- Identify trends, weak signals and reliability concerns using BMS/EPMS data and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Manage on‑shift work execution with strict adherence to permit-to-work controls, isolations/LOTO, vendor access and operational handbacks.
- Coordinate vendor activities during shift, ensuring safe execution, clear understanding of plant impacts and thorough return-to-service verification.
- Validate operational readiness following maintenance, resets or configuration changes, confirming alarms, redundancy, load paths and expected operating conditions.
- Review and improve quality of shift logs, event notes, CMMS entries and handovers to ensure accuracy, clarity and traceability.
- Raise and escalate recurring defects, reliability risks and improvement opportunities through appropriate channels.
- Contribute to procedure reviews, readiness activities, drills and documentation improvements with practical, shift-based insights.
- This role does not perform licensed electrical, mechanical or refrigeration work. All trade‑restricted activities are completed by appropriately qualified and licensed personnel. The Shift Technician focuses on operational system management, first-response stabilisation, verification and coordination.
- Set a high standard for safety behaviour, operational discipline and professional conduct across the shift.
- Support technicians through on-the-job coaching, demonstrations and constructive feedback to improve capability and consistency.
- Assist with onboarding and familiarisation of new team members, reinforcing authorised boundaries and operational expectations.
- Strengthen team communication by ensuring clear handovers, accurate escalation details and calm coordination during events.
- Participate actively in briefings, toolbox talks, training and operational discussions, offering practical observations and improvement ideas.
- Build collaborative relationships with Security, Projects and Vendors personnel to support safe, coordinated site operations.
- Demonstrate a concierge‑level customer service approach in all interactions with customers, visitors and stakeholders.
- Strong operational discipline and sound judgement in a critical facility environment.
- High technical capability in electrical and/or mechanical systems within authorised boundaries.
- Effective structured troubleshooting and stabilisation capability under pressure.
- Ability to interpret alarms, telemetry, trends and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with BMS/EPMS, CMMS and operational workflow tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication for shift documentation, incidents and customer updates.
- Contractor coordination skills with strong permit-to-work and LOTO awareness.
- Ability to coach others and improve team execution quality.
- Calm, methodical approach during alarms and operational events.
- Continuous improvement mindset with focus on reliability and operational quality.
- Experience in critical environments such as data centres, hospitals, utilities, defence or industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated capability operating and monitoring critical power and cooling systems (UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs/PMMs, ATS/STS, CRAC/CRAH, chilled water systems, pumps, controls, fire systems).
- Hands-on experience conducting operational inspections and first-response stabilisation actions.
- Experience using BMS/EPMS and CMMS/workflow tools for monitoring, work management and operational documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, technical drawings and OEM documentation.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work, isolations/LOTO and basic operational risk assessment.
- Strong written and verbal communication suitable for logs, handovers and customer-facing updates.
- Role operates on a 24×7 rotating shift roster including nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Work occurs in data halls, plant rooms, electrical/mechanical spaces and external plant areas; PPE is required as per site policy.
- Participation in emergency response activities and incident exercises is required.
- Not required or minimal travel expected; occasional travel between local STACK facilities may be required based on operational needs.
- Completion of STACK onboarding and required safety/compliance training.
- Ability to meet site authorisation requirements for system operation and system access.
- Physical capability to perform inspections, rounds and emergency response tasks.
- Ongoing compliance with STACK policies, procedures and behavioural standards.
- Legal entitlement to work in Malaysia.
- Ability to satisfy pre-employment screening requirements (as applicable), including right-to-work checks, background checks and reference checks.
- Ability to meet data centre security requirements including badging, access control and adherence to customer-mandated security protocols.
- Security clearance is not required unless specified for a customer-specific facility.
