As our Assistant HR Manager, you’ll support the HR leadership team in building scalable people processes, managing day-to-day HR operations, and driving initiatives that strengthen employee experience, performance, and culture.

This role is ideal for someone who is ready to step up from an HR generalist/specialist role into leadership, combining operational excellence with strategic exposure in a high-growth, startup environment.

The Assistant HR Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring our people operations run smoothly while supporting the HR Manager and senior leaders in delivering strategic initiatives. You will balance hands-on execution with managerial oversight, helping BJAK build a high-performance workforce and a thriving culture.

What You’ll Do

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee daily HR operations including onboarding, confirmation, leave, payroll coordination, and exit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and HR policies across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and improve HR systems, processes, and documentation.

Talent Acquisition & Development

  • Support recruitment activities including screening, interviews, and coordination with hiring managers.
  • Partner with HR leadership to design and implement training, upskilling, and career development programs.
  • Assist in succession planning and workforce planning activities.

Performance & Employee Relations

  • Guide managers through performance management cycles, probation evaluations, and disciplinary processes.
  • Provide support in handling employee relations cases, escalating complex matters to HR leadership.
  • Champion employee engagement and well-being initiatives.

Culture & Engagement

  • Help design and execute employee engagement activities such as townhalls, recognition programs, and surveys.
  • Act as a culture ambassador, ensuring BJAK’s values are reflected in all people processes.

Leadership & Support

  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior HR staff.
  • Act as a deputy to the HR Manager, stepping in to represent HR in meetings when needed.
  • Support HR leadership with reports, analytics, and project implementation.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally across HR operations, employee relations, and recruitment.
  • Solid knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices in Malaysia and/or regional markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust across teams.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring junior HR staff is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in HR systems and data reporting.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and eagerness to grow into a future HR leadership role.
