Cluster Director of Engineering (for Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu and Hyatt Regency Kinabalu)

As a member of the properties Leadership Committee, the Cluster Director of Engineering is responsible for the efficient running of the division of 2 hotels in line with Hyatt International's Corporate Strategies and brand standards, whilst meeting employee, guest and owner expectations. This position reports to both hotel's General Managers.

The Cluster Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance of the hotel’s M&E and the appearance and working order of the hotel. The Cluster Director of Engineering must be able to work independently, as well as with others. Responsibilities may include: maintaining the interior and exterior of the building, including guest rooms, conducting room preventative maintenance, and monthly safety inspections, maintaining all equipment, basement parking and common areas, training the staff on safety and emergency procedures, and working with vendors and contractors. The Cluster Director of Engineering must respond to emergencies and work with corporate maintenance on special remodelling projects or capital expenditure needs. This position requires overall maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting ability with skills in painting, HVAC, carpentry, equipment, and tool usage.

Job Descriptions

Duties include:

  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems; Develop and implement quality control programs and room preventative maintenance
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations
  • Experience in managing utility systems and tracking monthly consumption
  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions, review contractual agreements with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Requisition supplies and materials to complete construction projects
  • Confer with contractors and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems
  • Involved in annual Hotel business plan, maximizing hotel revenue and profitability, monitoring all costs in line with the agreed business objectives and targets.
  • Ensure the management and safety of the owner’s assets and provide a positive return on the owner’s investment.
  • Capable of working with building code officials, planning/zoning officials and community design committees when required
  • Experience in managing utility systems
  • Drive customer preference by achieving and exceeding Hyatt’s minimum thresholds/targets specified for the various guests’ satisfaction surveys and focus on consistent delivery of caring service.
  • Play an integral role in achieving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets within the organization
  • Monitor and optimize energy consumption strategies in alignment with ESG goals
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of ESG requirements and regulations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the organization's adherence to local ESG targets
  • Drives and initiates corporate sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Engineering/Facility Management degree preferred
  • 8 – 10 years or more of progressive hotel or building and facility management experience
  • Previous hotel pre-opening experience advantage
  • Service-oriented style with professional presentation skills and proven leadership skills track
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Must possess the following strengths: creative thinking, high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Presentation
