Overview:
Responsible for managing smooth and efficient the end-to-end customs clearance process to ensure the efficient, compliant, and timely movement of raw materials, intermediates, and finished bio-based products across international borders. This role is critical in supporting the biorefinery’s supply chain operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant import/export regulations, environmental standards, and documentation requirements.
A key responsibility of this position is to develop, implement, and manage tax exemption schemes—particularly those related to renewable energy, bio-based materials, and sustainable practices—to support the company’s operational and sustainability objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of international trade regulations, environmental and customs compliance specific to biorefinery operations, and tax frameworks. Success in this role requires high attention to detail and excellent coordination skills to work effectively with internal teams (including supply chain, finance, legal, and sustainability) and external bodies such as customs, tax, and environmental regulatory agencies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Production Logistic, Feedstock team, and Procurement team in coordinate and manage all aspects of the customs clearance process for imported and exported goods.
- Liaise with customs authorities to obtain necessary permits, licenses, and clearances for shipments.
- Provide guidance and support to internal teams on customs regulations, import/export compliance, and documentation requirements.
- Monitor and track the status of shipments through the customs clearance process, resolving any issues or delays that may arise.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations, tariff schedules, and trade agreements to ensure compliance and minimize duty costs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including logistics, procurement, and finance, to optimize customs clearance processes and minimize risks.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains in customs clearance operations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to customs clearance activities for audit and compliance purposes.
- Propose and execute tax exemption scheme and execute accordingly. Coordinate with all related parties such as MIDA, MITI, Customs to understand the latest available tax exemption scheme and fit the company overall objective.
- Manage audit and all related process related with tax exemption.
Job Requirements:
- Min. Diploma/Advanced Diploma in international trade, supply chain management, or a related field
- > 10 years' experience in customs clearance, import/export operations, or international logistics preferred
- Strong understanding of customs regulations, import/export compliance requirements, tax exemption policies, and international trade practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using customs clearance software and systems preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively resolve issues under tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing regulations, procedures, and business requirements.
- Certification or training in customs brokerage or trade compliance is a plus
