Role Profile

Role Title: Director of HR Ops, Systems and Shared Services

Business Function: Group Human Resources

Reports to: Head of HR Ops, Tech & Insights

Location: India

Role Summary

This role is responsible for building the new HR operating engine for Prudential. This role is part of the HR Optimized function. which is building all horizontal capabilities such as Process Excellence, HR Technology, Reporting & Analytics, Engagement & Governance and Operations & Shared services.

The Director of HR Ops & Shared Services is responsible for leading the practice to consolidate the operations in all global HR shared sites under one management and then work towards building the HR Operating model of shared services in our scaled locations (namely India & Malaysia)

This would require creating strategy, driving change management with stakeholders across all group and local business units, building world class tech enabled service delivery for key people processes and communicating progress through business reviews and relevant artifacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage our internal HR Operations & Payroll teams, based across 6 locations (Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Singapore, China), a team of 15 folks and build additional support teams in India (Insourced + Outsourced)
  • Create HR Ops Strategy including visioning, planning, execution, and organizational change fully aligned with the overall People Strategy.
  • Provide strategic partnership to both internal customers and critical external vendors.
  • Deploy and embed the HR transformation and modernization projects across the Group.
  • Lead the HR Ops project portfolio execution, steering committees, and delivery.
  • Assess risks relative to the operational delivery, develop mitigation plans and resolve functional issues.
  • Build the operational excellence capability e.g. by deploying Quality Assurance, Knowledge management and BCP for all Ops processes.
  • Ensure the function remains “audit ready” all the time particularly with respect to data privacy requirements.
  • Manage partnership with rest of HR Optimized functions and COEs e.g. Process excellence, tech, and Analytics team as well as local cross functional deliver teams e.g. Finance, IT etc.
  • Responsible for people co-ordination with LBUs across 25 markets.
  • Provide site-leadership to all other HR Optimized teams based in offshore locations.
  • Lead the HR Shared Services delivery from offshore locations in partnership with overall Prudential Shared Services strategy and framework.
  • Hire and build a team in Bengaluru with a focus on HR Analytics, Operations and Technology function.
  • As we continue to build the Global Business Services center, successful incumbent would be working towards the future operating model working with overall COO office.
  • Shift more processes to India/Malaysia (Insourced and Outsourced) while providing leadership, adding value and scaling the operations.


Skills & Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, such as business administration, management, engineering, or human resources
  • At least 10 years of experience in Operations & IT strategy, Program Management, Service Management as well as Transformation, preferably in the HR domain
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to use data and technology to drive process innovation and improvement.
  • Strong project management, change management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced, highly matrixed, and federated environment.
  • Strong global people leadership experience with exposure to financial services or consulting organizations
  • Strong experience with cloud-based tech deployment and a track record in both implementing and sustaining initiatives across multiple functions and geographies
  • Team management experience; encouraging a culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Ability to connect with cross-cultural teams.
  • Should be experienced in managing regional or global teams which are geographically spread out.
  • Work closely with change agents with huge transformation agendas while moving towards future operating model.
  • Ability to partner with various other functions to get their service/support and building the ecosystem of people.
  • Experience in building things ground-up with right sequencing and prioritizing the capabilities to be looked at first.
  • Provide inputs in the redesign of every HR process such as Talent Acquisition, Pay Review, Onboarding, learning while handling the ongoing operations.
