Full Stack Developer

Camshaft is the project code name for an AI enablement platform designed by Kurt Theobald, CEO of Classy Llama, a digital consultancy founded in 2007 with a mission to love others through business and a vision to deliver inspiration, insights, and digital transformation services that provide rock-solid solutions for industrial B2B companies. These include industries like automotive, manufacturing, and customizable products.

The purpose of the AI platform is to enable AI engagement for business and operational users as well as to streamline AI tuning and organizational distribution for more technical users.

Much like computing in the late 70s, LLMs are like unrefined power currently being tinkered with by technologists. And just as Steve Jobs did with computing, molding the technology into the shape of a human through simple, elegant design backed by robust technology, so we seek to do the same with AI.

The Full Stack Developer will own the end-to-end development of the Camshaft AI platform’s user-facing application layer, bridging front-end interfaces and back-end services. This role requires speed, adaptability, and a willingness to work in a highly iterative, startup-like environment, focusing on delivering an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) on an accelerated timeline.

Contract Terms:

Initial short-term contract (3–6 months), potentially convertible into a long-term arrangement pending MVP success and additional funding.

Part-time or full-time hours will be determined based on project needs.

Compensation includes a combination of hourly/project-based pay plus potential stock or equivalent incentives upon successful funding.

Full Stack Development

• Implement both front-end (UI/UX) components and back-end services, ensuring seamless interaction between application layers.
• Architect solutions that balance speed and maintainability, optimizing for MVP delivery.

Technical Design & Architecture

• Collaborate with Solutions Architect and Technical Lead to design scalable, secure, and efficient system architectures.
• Integrate with databases, APIs, and AI services; handle data flows and user authentication securely.

Rapid Iteration & MVP Delivery

• Build quick prototypes and proofs-of-concept to validate ideas and gather user feedback from pilot customers.
• Demonstrate comfort with making well-reasoned assumptions to maintain development velocity.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with UX Designers, Data Engineers, and other team members to ensure consistent design and functionality.
• Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint reviews) and contribute to continuous improvement.

Quality & Testing

• Write clean, well-documented code with appropriate unit testing and integration tests.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and technical debts.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics

Front-End Proficiency:

• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
• Familiarity with responsive design, accessibility best practices, and cross-browser compatibility.

Back-End Expertise:

• Proficiency in Node.js and Python.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and database technologies (SQL or NoSQL).

Software Engineering Principles:

• Experience using Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (e.g., Docker).
• Strong understanding of design patterns, data structures, and clean code best practices.

• Comfortable working at high velocity with evolving requirements.
• Able to balance pragmatism with quality to meet aggressive timelines.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• AI/ML Exposure: Experience integrating AI features or working with LLMs.
• Cloud Platforms: AWS or Azure for deployment and scaling.
• Security & Auth: Knowledge of secure coding practices (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
• Experience Delivering MVPs: Prior track record of shipping high-quality MVPs in a startup environment.

Organizational Alignment

The Full Stack Developer reports to VP of Technology. You will collaborate closely with:

• Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Solutions Architects for back-end data and AI pipelines.
• UX Designers to ensure a frictionless user experience.
• The Camshaft Product Owner for product vision and business alignment.
