As our Metrology Engineer (QA) you’ll support HID’s success by:

Summary

A Metrology Engineer oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of measurement systems used in manufacturing and quality assurance. The Metrology Engineer ensures that instruments and systems used to measure dimensions, pressure, temperature, and other physical quantities are accurate, compliant, and calibrated to industry and regulatory standards.

The QA Metrology Engineer will put in place a system to monitor equipment performance and report on its findings, liaising with Manager and Staff, and coordinating procedures to address any deficiencies. In addition he/she will be conducting training on measurement methodology to all inspectors and engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for all measurement tools and calibration process.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for precise physical measurements across all manufacturing processes.
  • Train personnel on proper measurement techniques and procedures.
  • Perform periodic audits to ensure consistency and accuracy in measurements.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive calibration and verification program for all measurement equipment.
  • Oversee the entire measurement chain from raw material inspection to final product validation.
  • Implement and monitor processes to ensure the integrity and reliability of measurement data.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for measurement discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineers to establish measurement processes for automated equipment, including defining tolerances and measurement parameters.
  • Calculate measurement errors and uncertainties, incorporating them into the measurement chain.
  • Optimize measurement processes for efficiency and accuracy, leveraging automation wherever possible.
  • Translate product design tolerances into actionable measurement requirements for each process step.
  • Program and configure measurement devices and equipment to meet specific measurement needs.
  • Ensure alignment between product specifications and measurement capabilities
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of measurement programs to accommodate changes in product designs or requirements.
  • To facilitate NCR handling using proper Quality tools i.e 8D analysis, 7-QC Tools, Fishbone analysis etc.
  • To manage and update quality implementation status on any non-conformances raised by customer into TTP with regards to measurement error.
  • To create DAS profile for new product prior to mass production
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to environmental operational controls and compliance with applicable legal and other requirements.
  • To report to QA Manager on all metrology issues arises.
  • Any other task assigned by immediate superior

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of production/manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Sound mathematical and technical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Good investigative and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail

Education And/or Experience

  • Professional Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Manufacturing) or equivalent and with 4 years working experience in QA related fields.
  • Decision making ability coupled with the ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience in presenting reports to the management and communicate with supplier on issues arises.
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OSHA regulations
  • Experienced in conducting Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies for measurement systems
  • Knowledge in 8D principles, SPC, FMEA, POKA YOKE, 6 sigma and other management system are advantages

Language Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written skill in English and Malay. Mandarin will be a plus

Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of measurement science principles, including uncertainty analysis, traceability, and calibration standards.
  • Dimensional Measurements: Proficiency in dimensional measurement techniques using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to ensure accuracy in length, width, height, and geometric features.
  • Mechanical Measurements: Knowledge of mechanical measurement principles and instruments (force gauges, torque wrenches, hardness testers) for assessing mechanical properties like force, torque, hardness, and stiffness. Good understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Electrical Measurements: Knowledge of electrical measurement techniques, instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers), and standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) for parameters such as voltage, current, resistance, and impedance.
  • Vision System Integration: Ability to integrate and utilize advanced commercial devices and automated equipment based on vision systems for dimensional measurement, defect detection, and quality inspection
  • Surface Roughness Measurements: Familiarity with surface roughness measurement techniques (profilometers, roughness testers), parameters (Ra, Rz, Rq), and standards (ISO 4287, ANSI B46.1)
  • Colorimetry: Knowledge of color measurement principles, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and standards (CIE, ASTM) for assessing color properties accurately.

Computer Skills

  • May be required to use a computer to input records, apply statistical quality control procedures, or other similar procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.
  • Minitab software
  • Basic experience with AutoCAD and creation of engineering drawings
