ASIA PACIFIC SMART SCHOOL

We are currently seeking to hire a Pre-Primary 1 Teaching Assistant with experience of working in a national school for commencement January 2026. Reporting to: Principal, APSS Primary.

Purpose of Role

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

General

  • Support the school’s policies, procedures and practices that reflect a commitment to high achievement, Amazing Learning and effective feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to contribute to students’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development, helping to prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the modern world.
  • Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups of students, including those who are underachieving or have additional learning, linguistic or behavioural needs.
  • Assist in the monitoring of student progress by supporting teachers in collecting observations and data to inform planning and intervention strategies.
  • Support the Homeroom Teacher in promoting students’ well-being, positive behaviour and engagement within the assigned homeroom.
  • Contribute positively to co-curricular activities, school events and other programmes organised for and by students.
  • Model positive behaviour, professionalism and respect at all times to help maintain a safe, orderly and disciplined learning environment.

Curriculum Support

  • Support teachers during lessons by assisting with classroom activities, learning resources, and the implementation of planned learning experiences.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, clarify instructions and support understanding of lesson objectives.
  • Assist in meeting the needs of all learners, including students of high ability and those with special educational or linguistic needs.
  • Support the development of students’ literacy, numeracy, ICT and communication skills through guided practice and structured activities.
  • Encourage students’ independence, collaboration and effective study habits, both in class and during out-of-class tasks.
  • Support communication with parents and carers, when appropriate, by assisting teachers with the preparation of learning materials, feedback and documentation related to students’ progress.

Communication, marketing and PR

  • Ensure professional and effective communication and consultation, as appropriate, between colleagues, parents and students at Asia Pacific Smart School (APSS)
  • Publicise and celebrate achievements
  • Assist with the organisation of open days (physical or virtual), consultation events and other school events.
  • Contribute to marketing activities for Asia Pacific Smart School (APSS)

Other Expectation

  • Fully and positively participate in the school’s performance appraisal scheme in order to develop and enhance personal and service performance
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested/assigned as required by Senior Leadership Team (SLT) or Line Manager (HOD), especially with regard to the school’s administrative functions
  • Ensure that school policies including those relating to Safeguarding, Race Equality, Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct and Health & Safety are adhered to.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a Diploma in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a relevant field.
  • Fresh graduates with a strong interest in education and working with young learners are welcome to apply.
  • Computer literate, with the ability to use basic educational technology and digital tools to support teaching and learning activities.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, students and parents.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Patient, nurturing and proactive, with a positive attitude towards supporting young learners’ academic and emotional development.
