Primary Assistant Head Teacher – Learning & Teaching
Purpose of Role
The Primary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching will play a pivotal leadership role in ensuring the highest standards of learning and teaching across the Primary phase at Straits International School Rawang. This position will focus on the implementation and enhancement of ISP’s Learning First approach, ensuring that Amazing Learning is a consistent feature in lessons across all subjects and year groups.
This role involves a combination of strategic leadership, support for teaching staff, and direct classroom teaching responsibilities. The Primary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching will be expected to model best practices in teaching and learning while supporting and guiding fellow educators to achieve continuous improvement. A strong commitment to professional development for both themselves and their colleagues is essential, along with an unwavering dedication to ensuring that every child’s learning experience is enriched.
The holder of this position will work closely with the Head of Primary, other Assistant Heads, and key staff to build a culture of academic excellence and professional growth.

- Ensure a consistent understanding and implementation of the key principles of ISP’s Learning First approach, including how this is implemented in Straits International School Rawang.
- Lead and inspire students through amazing learning experiences across the Primary phase.
- Promote high standards of learning and teaching within the classroom and throughout the Primary phase.
- Share best practices with fellow Primary teachers and support a collaborative approach to learning and teaching.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
- Participate in lesson visits alongside the Head of Primary to ensure consistent high standards in the Primary phase.
- Use lesson visit data to reflect on and improve teaching practices, engaging in CPD as required.
- Share best practices with other teachers to ensure consistency and continuous improvement across the Primary phase.
- Work with individual teachers and/or groups of teachers to secure improvements in learning and teaching within the Primary phase.
- Identify and share best practices across the Primary phase, using these to guide the professional growth of teachers.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Primary phase to ensure high standards of student achievement.
- Contribute to the holistic development of students by working alongside other staff members in promoting well-being, personal growth, and academic success.
- Teach assigned subjects in the Primary curriculum.
- Plan, deliver, and assess lessons that engage students and promote high standards of academic performance.
- Create a positive and inspiring learning environment that encourages personal responsibility, creativity, and critical thinking.
- Maintain high standards of student behavior and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant UK teaching qualifications (PGCE OR Bachelor Education) or equivalent international teaching qualification
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have up-to-date knowledge on the Cambridge International curriculum
- Can deliver a balanced, broad and differentiated curriculum for their learners;
- Can deliver well-planned, rigorous and interesting learning experiences for their students;
- Have high expectations of learners with appropriate inspiration and challenge;
- Encourage and contribute to a well-organised and inspiring learning environment;
- Experience of integrating technology into learning and teaching;
- Have a growth mindset to all aspects of school life;
- Passionate and willing to go above and beyond for the school community.
- Ability to pass an International Child Protection Certificate (UK) to work with children & able to provide Criminal Background Check covering the previous 10 years employment history.
- Contract: Fixed Term (2 years) – renewal depending on performance
