The role

We currently have several exciting opportunities available in our Kuala Lumpur office. Kuala Lumpur as a city offers a vibrant, affordable, and culturally rich lifestyle, complemented by world-class infrastructure, stunning natural landscapes, and warm hospitality.

About You

Working in collaboration with our global network of experts and industry leaders, you will contribute to the successful delivery of dam, hydropower and pumped hydro projects around the world. Your role will involve providing technical advice and solutions grounded in your expertise, ensuring projects meet cost, schedule, quality, and technical standards.

We are seeking expressions of interest from qualified electrical engineers with a minimum of 15 years’ relevant industry experience and a strong understanding of international standards and codes of practice.

Ideally, you will bring consultancy experience, including managing engineering teams and coordinating with other technical disciplines to deliver integrated, high-quality outcomes. Most importantly, you will embody SMEC’s values and our commitment to client focus and service excellence.

Principal Engineer – Electrical

• Experience in hydroelectric power projects, preparation in feasibility studies, tender and detail design, design review, site supervision, commissioning and rehabilitation
• Sound knowledge of relevant standards including AS, IEC, IEEE and NFPA
• Proficient in power system studies, detailed single line diagram and schematic diagrams, salient pole generator design and protection studies and design including grading studies
