Job Description & Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Project Costs: Accurately estimate construction project costs, including materials, labor, and equipment, based on detailed project specifications and drawings.
  • Develop and Manage Budgets: Create and manage project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints and controlling costs throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Tendering Process: Assist in the preparation of bills of quantities, analyze tender submissions, and provide recommendations on contractor selection based on technical and cost considerations.
  • Monitor Project Costs: Track and monitor project expenditures, identify cost deviations from the budget, and recommend corrective actions to keep the project on track.
  • Client Notices and Claims: Handle client notices and manage claims in line with contract terms, ensuring accurate documentation and timely resolution.
  • Subcontractor Payments and Record-Keeping: Manage subcontractor payments, maintain accurate records, and ensure timely processing of invoices and claims.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a background in the construction industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost estimation processes.
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise in quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, WinQS, etc.) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost analysis and reporting.

  • Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and numerical skills to assess project costs and variances.
    • Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and project teams.
    • Proficient negotiation skills, particularly when dealing with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing tenders, contracts, and financial records.
  • Ability to Work Under Pressure: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations.

Desirable Skills & Qualities:

  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and regulations.
  • Ability to forecast potential issues and take proactive measures to avoid cost overruns or delays.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with other departments such as design, procurement, and site management.
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities to optimize project costs and enhance profitability.
