                            Secondary Assistant Head Teacher of Learning & Teaching / First Language English & Travel and Tourism Teacher
Purpose of Role
The Secondary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching / First Language English & Travel and Tourism Teacher will be responsible for the standards of learning and teaching in Straits International School Rawang, while also teaching First Language English and Travel & Tourism at the secondary level.
In this dual role, the post holder will model high standards of teaching and learning in their own classes while supporting colleagues across the secondary phase. They will implement the core tenets of ISP’s Learning First approach, ensuring that Amazing Learning is consistently evident across lessons.
The Secondary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching / First Language English & Travel and Tourism Teacher will demonstrate professional excellence, guiding and mentoring others with care, patience, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Teaching & Learning

- Ensure consistent understanding and implementation of ISP’s Learning First approach.
- Lead CPD and oversee daily standards of learning and teaching.
- Lead by example in promoting Amazing Learning within their own teaching of First Language English and Travel & Tourism.
- Lead, develop, and enhance teaching practices across the secondary phase.
- Collaborate with the Primary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching to share best practices and ensure whole-school consistency.
- Coordinate lesson visits across the secondary phase with the Head of Secondary.
- Analyse trends and patterns from lesson visit data to inform CPD and improvement strategies.
- Work collaboratively with the Primary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching for cross-phase alignment.
- Support individual teachers and teams to improve learning and teaching practices.
- Identify and share best practices within the secondary phase.
- Work closely with the Secondary Assistant Head – Academic Outcomes and the Secondary Assistant Head – Student Welfare & Wellbeing to ensure high standards of student achievement and holistic development.
- Collaborate with the Primary Assistant Head – Learning & Teaching for continuity across the school.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons for First Language English and Travel & Tourism.
- Foster students’ academic and personal growth through effective, inclusive, and innovative teaching.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing timely feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to curriculum development within the English and Humanities faculties.
The Teacher will report to the Head of Secondary/Campus Principal.
Qualifications And Experience
- Education: Relevant UK teaching qualifications (PGCE OR Bachelor Education) or equivalent international teaching qualification/Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have up-to-date knowledge on the Cambridge International curriculum
- Can deliver a balanced, broad and differentiated curriculum for their learners;
- Can deliver well-planned, rigorous and interesting learning experiences for their students;
- Have high expectations of learners with appropriate inspiration and challenge;
- Encourage and contribute to a well-organised and inspiring learning environment;
- Experience of integrating technology into learning and teaching;
- Have a growth mindset to all aspects of school life;
- Passionate and willing to go above and beyond for the school community.
- Ability to pass an International Child Protection Certificate (UK) to work with children & able to provide Criminal Background Check covering the previous 10 years employment history.
- Contract: Fixed Term (2 years) – renewal depending on performance
