Your future team
We have recently started a journey towards using more AI, digitalization, automation and better use of data – and this is where your abilities come into play. You will join our Data Science & Engineering team and work at the forefront of AI and machine learning. This role reports directly to the Team Lead of the Data Science & Engineering team based in Malaysia. You will work closely with teams from Denmark and Poland and be an integral part of a larger global Data Science & Engineering team. Furthermore, you will be responsible for leading the data engineering aspects of the team, working closely with peers of varying skill sets. So far, we have hired one Data Engineer and two AI Engineers that you will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from.
What You Will Be Doing
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Data Engineer with Azure, DBT and Snowflake experience to join our Data Science & Engineering team in Malaysia. In this role, you will work closely with data scientists, ML engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to run and maintain scalable data platforms that power AI/ML products and analytics solutions at ROCKWOOL. You will be part of a growing team that focuses on data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance of our data pipelines. The role requires a blend of technical and communication skills. More concretely, you will have the following responsibilities :

You will be part of a growing team that focuses on data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance of our data pipelines. The role requires a blend of technical and communication skills. More concretely, you will have the following responsibilities :
Run & Maintain Data Platforms & Pipelines
- Programming in Python and SQL to maintain and improve the codebase for existing systems with relevant programming languages, frameworks, and platforms.
- Maintain robust, scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming) to ingest, process, and store structured and unstructured data, including the opportunity to work with real-time data.
- Monitor, support and optimize ETL/ELT workflows.
- Build and maintain data models, data marts, and data warehouses to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting to guarantee data accuracy and integrity across pipelines.
- Collaborate with data stewards and data scientists to define data schemas, metadata, and lineage.
- Enforce best practices for data security, access control, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Profile, tune, and optimize SQL queries, data transformations, and storage layers to meet SLA requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies or architectural patterns to improve throughput and reduce costs.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning (IaC) and CI/CD processes for data workloads.
- Guide and coach junior and mid-level engineers in Data Engineering, programming, and data platform development & maintenance.
- Innovate and proactively harden the data platforms against potential issues.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, building, and maintaining large-scale data platforms.
- Proficient in SQL and one or more programming languages (Python, Scala, Java, Snowpark).
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Familiarity with DBT, Snowflake, IaaC concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation, Jenkins/GitHub Actions) and Jinja
- Hands-on experience with ETL / ELT workflow tools such as Snowpipe.
- Strong data modelling skills (star schema, snowflake schema, data vault, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Azure Functions, Azure Data Lake, and Iceberg.
- Knowledge of SAP FI, SD, MM, SAP BW.
- Knowledge of social media, marketing, and sales platforms.
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases.
- Experience designing and optimizing data warehouses, data lakes, and/or data lakehouse architectures.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
- Knowledge of data quality frameworks, data cataloging, and metadata management tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, and able to troubleshoot complex data issues under tight SLAs.
- Strong communication skills : able to liaise between technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, and senior management.
- Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement attitude; able to break down ambiguous requirements into actionable tasks.
- Familiarity with LLM tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity.
- Extensive experience in relational databases and version control systems such as Git (GitHub and GitOps).
- Hands-on experience with Supermetrics, Informatica, Kafka, Databricks, Spark, Airflow, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with managed data services (e.g., AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure while AWS or GCP is OK too)
- Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack) to monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines.
- Ability to work in Scrum in Kanban using Jira.
- Ability to propose solutions and implement them independently.
- International work experience.
