Staff RF/Antenna Design Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• As a Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer in the Data and Devices organization at TE Connectivity, you will drive technical advancements in internal and external antenna design, leading the development of innovative solutions for complex design challenges. You will inspire talent for rapid development, foster customer relationships, and contribute to the technical roadmap while coordinating technical activities and communications.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drive the development of best-in-class, innovative antenna system solutions for a variety of exciting applications, such as IoT devices, infrastructure, and consumer products, using computer simulation and experimental techniques.
• Lead and collaborate with multiple team members to create cutting-edge antenna solutions, ensuring timely market delivery while maintaining cost efficiency.
• Contribute to and influence technology and product decisions at the business unit level.
• Provide guidance and in-depth training on complex subject matters to less experienced coworkers, both internally and externally within the department.
• Mentor and coach engineers within the business unit on state-of-the-art antenna technology.
• Assist the team in the design, implementation, and validation of antenna systems throughout their lifecycle, from the initial concept phase to mass production.
• Analyze and review design requirements in close collaboration with customers, product managers, and sales teams.
• Collaborate with the NPI team to develop RF product designs and define the optimal technology for manufacturability, ensuring customer requirements are met.
• Proactively contribute to the optimization and improvement of RF design procedures to accelerate time-to-market.
• Conduct research on state-of-the-art antenna technologies through trade and professional journals to identify next-generation technology platforms.

EDUCATION:

• M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

• Strong understanding of antenna theory, products, applications, and RF/antenna analysis projects.
• Over 8 years of experience in antenna design, including approximately 2 years in RF circuit design for RF-related electronics.
• Extensive experience in antenna testing and measurement, including VNA, spectrum analyzers, PIM testing, anechoic chambers, and active measurement (TRP/TIS).
• Expert-level proficiency with 3D EM simulation software (HFSS or CST) and RF circuit design tools (ADS or AWR).
• Solid grasp of electromagnetics and antenna theory, using first principles to address complex technical challenges and drive innovation.
• Hands-on experience with bench design work to validate simulations, along with expertise in anechoic chamber testing.
• Ability to influence mechanical engineering, industrial design, product management, operations, PCB design, and project management with a data-driven approach.
• Capable of assessing risk and compliance within areas of responsibility.
• Experience with various protocols such as LTE, GNSS, Wi-Fi, BT, NFC, UWB, and mm-Wave.
• Strong communication skills for presenting to leadership and stakeholders as needed.
