Job Description

Nursing assistants provide direct patient care, acting as the bridge between nurses and patients. They assist with daily activities (bathing, feeding), monitor vital signs, reposition patients, and ensure safe, hygienic environments while offering essential emotional support.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Personal Care and Hygiene

• Also known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), these tasks help maintain patients' dignity and cleanliness:
• Assisting with bathing, dressing, and grooming.
• Helping with oral hygiene, hair care, and shaving.
• Providing toileting support and managing continence care

2. Clinical and Health Monitoring( Training Will Provide )
Nursing assistants collect essential data that nurses rely on to assess patient health:

• Taking and recording vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration.
• Monitoring food and fluid intake/output.
• Weighing patients and reporting any sudden changes in health, behavior, or pain levels to supervisors.

3. Mobility and Transfers ( Training Will Provide )
Ensuring patients move safely to prevent bedsores, muscle stiffness, and falls:

• Helping patients get in and out of beds, chairs, and wheelchairs.
• Repositioning bedridden patients every few hours to prevent pressure ulcers.
• Assisting with walking (ambulation) and physical therapy exercises.

4. Comfort and Nutrition
Ensuring patients are properly nourished and comfortable:

• Preparing and serving meals, or directly feeding patients who cannot do so themselves.
• Passing water, snacks, and keeping patients hydrated.
• Answering patient call lights and fulfilling requests promptly.

5. Environment and Infection Control
Maintaining a clean and sanitized setting to stop the spread of germs:

• Changing bed linens and making beds.
• Cleaning patient rooms, disposing of waste, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Adhering to strict hand hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines.
