Summary

As a Quality Engineer (QE) in Capital Equipment, you will oversee low-volume, high-complexity assets where every machine represents a massive, serialized investment.

Serving as the vital link between Engineering, Production, and the Customer, your mission is to establish the quality frameworks that guarantee each custom-built machine delivers peak reliability under intense industrial demands. In this role, you will champion root-cause investigations, manage high-value supplier quality, and spearhead the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process for new equipment rollouts.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

Quality Planning & New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Risk Mitigation: Lead the PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) for new equipment configurations to pinpoint and resolve risks before assembly begins.
  • Framework Development: Build and deploy custom Control Plans and Inspection Test Plans (ITP) designed for intricate mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Standards Definition: Translate customer specifications and engineering schematics into clear Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) parameters.

Advanced Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis

  • Failure Investigations: Direct 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone analyses to resolve critical equipment failures or performance anomalies.
  • Design Collaborations: Partner with Design Engineering to initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) when issues trace back to design vulnerabilities rather than production errors.
  • Reliability Analytics: Evaluate field failure reports and warranty data to identify and address long-term reliability trends.

Validation & Testing Oversight

  • Acceptance Protocols: Define and govern protocols for both Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Metrology Management: Supervise the calibration schedule for advanced plant metrology equipment, including CMMs and laser trackers.
  • Documentation Compliance: Audit and sign off on customer-facing "Build Books" (the definitive documentation package delivered with each asset).

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience: 3 to 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience, specifically within project-based or engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing sectors.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient with ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle) and statistical analysis software (Minitab, JMP).

    • Deep understanding of metallurgy, welding codes (AWS/ASME), and electrical safety standards.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional cross-functional influence, with the resolve to champion a "quality-first" mindset even during tight production and shipping windows
