Job Scope: Electrical Engineer Specializing in Protection & Control Systems – Data Centre Newbuild Project
Position Summary:
The Electrical Engineer specializing in Protection & Control Systems will be responsible for the design, implementation, quality assurance, and commissioning of electrical protection and control systems across the data centre newbuild project. This includes Power Monitoring Systems (PMS), protection relays, SCADA/BMS interfaces, Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) systems, and cause-and-effect logic integration.
The role requires close coordination with internal stakeholders, contractors, and third-party vendors to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality delivery of electrical systems in compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain trackers for system scope, protection settings, coordination studies, action items, and progress updates.
Coordinate with design consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure alignment with project requirements and grid/operator standards.
Review and validate electrical protection designs, including relay coordination, selectivity studies, and control logic.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards (e.g., IEC/IEEE), and cause-and-effect matrices.
Support the development and refinement of control philosophies, protection strategies, and functional specifications.
Conduct inspection and testing checks to verify correct installation, wiring, and system functionality.
Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and industry best practices.
Identify and mitigate risks related to protection mis-coordination, system faults, and operational reliability.
Witness and validate critical protection schemes such as feeder, transformer, and busbar protection.
Provide technical recommendations during commissioning to ensure system stability, selectivity, and resilience.
Coordinate defect rectification and ensure proper closure prior to handover.
Maintain accurate records of protection philosophies, relay configurations, and system changes.
Prepare technical reports, issue logs, and progress updates for stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Proven experience (10-15 years) in protection and control engineering within data centre, power / oil and gas systems, or critical infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of protection relays, PMS/SCADA systems, ELV integration, and cause-and-effect logic.
Experience with protection coordination studies, relay settings, and commissioning procedures.
Familiarity with relevant standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.) and best practices for electrical system design and commissioning.
Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
