Trade Compliance Clerk

Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Trade Compliance Clerk supports the organization's import and export compliance activities by ensuring all international trade transactions comply with applicable customs regulations, import/export laws, sanctions, and company policies. The role involves maintaining documentation, coordinating with internal departments and external agencies, and ensuring accurate trade records.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Import & Export Documentation
• Prepare, review, and maintain import and export documentation.
• Verify commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and shipping documents.
• Ensure documentation complies with customs and regulatory requirements.
• Customs Compliance
• Assist in customs declaration processes.
• Verify HS (Harmonized System) tariff classifications.
• Support customs audits and compliance reviews.
• Maintain customs records according to legal retention requirements.
• Trade Compliance

• Screen customers, suppliers, and shipments against restricted party lists.
• Ensure compliance with import/export regulations, sanctions, and trade restrictions.
• Monitor compliance with License Manufacturing Warehouse (LMW) where applicable.
• Support country-of-origin determination.
• Record Management

• Maintain accurate trade compliance databases.
• Organize and archive import/export records.
• Prepare reports for management and regulatory authorities when required.
• Coordination

• Liaise with:

• Freight forwarders
• Customs brokers
• Government authorities
• Suppliers
• Customers
• Internal departments (Purchasing, Sales, Finance, Warehouse)
• Process Improvement
• Identify documentation errors and recommend corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to trade compliance.
• Assist in updating internal compliance procedures.
• Administrative Support
• Assist in preparing compliance reports.
• Monitor shipment status and customs clearance progress.
• Perform other administrative duties assigned by the Trade Compliance Officer.
  

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in:

• Logistics
• Supply Chain Management
• International Business
• Business Administration
• Customs Administration
• Related field
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in:
• Trade Compliance
• Import/Export Operations
• Logistics
• Shipping
• Customs Administration
  

Education

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma. Fresh graduates with relevant internships may also be considered.

Physical requirements/Work Environment

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel is necessary, so the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license is required.
