Advance Prudential Plc’s Environmental strategy in line with the Group Sustainability strategy. The incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day ownership of Prudential’s climate and nature strategy design and operationalisation, including setting and monitoring climate and nature related policy and targets, owning our climate and nature disclosures and ensuring regulatory and standard compliance, and supporting our climate scenarios development and analysis for the group. The role also includes reporting to governance committees and positioning Prudential as a thought leader in the space.

Principal Accountabilities

End-to-end ownership of Prudential’s climate and nature strategy and initiatives:

  • Leading Prudential’s climate and nature commitments, both spearheading the strategy and maintaining day to day ownership of activity required to achieve this.
  • Work closely with the Responsible Investment team, providing technical support and alignment between Prudential’s own operations and investments.
  • Embedding and delivering of environmental strategy through relevant business functions particularly Corporate Property and Group Procurement, and business units, providing advice and recommendations on targets and escalation where needed. Proactive stakeholder engagement across the Group is required to achieve this.
  • Operate as the go-to person on climate and nature for the Group, across both the insurance business activities, and Prudential’s investment portfolio. Build internal awareness and buy-in of climate and nature through continued engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Create thought leadership products relevant for Prudential’s climate and nature ambition, including research projects to explore viability of new or more ambitious environmental targets.
  • Innovate and explore internal and external collaborations to create a more sophisticated and impactful environmental strategy.


Define And Refine The Group Environmental Policies, Targets And Impact Measurement Approaches, Providing Expert Advice In Climate Scenario Design, Transition Risk And Physical Risk Including Responsibility For

  • Review the Group’s climate and nature policies and targets, including expanding the scope of such policies and targets as needed.
  • Research and effectively engage stakeholders regarding proposed policies and targets with functional stakeholders, local business units, and executives.
  • Collaborate across Group to define impact measurement approaches, data gathering and analysis.
  • Working with business units and Group functions to advance their maturity progress on climate and health, and support them to further embed and comply with group climate and nature policies, targets and impact measurement.
  • Provide expertise in climate scenario stress testing methodologies and metrics to further expand the scenario testing work for regulatory adherence and identifying impacts on the Group strategy and business planning.


Reporting, disclosures and governance

  • End-to-end ownership of the climate and nature sections in the sustainability report, as well as TCFD and ISSB disclosures in compliance with HKEX and LSEG
  • End-to-end ownership of the Group’s Climate Transition Plan
  • End-to-end ownership of external climate and nature narrative, including overseeing the successful completion of climate and nature disclosures to rating agencies, investors, surveys, media, etc.
  • Responsibility for relevant Governance papers related to climate and nature, including periodic Management and Board reporting.
  • Provide advice to local business units for local requirements of TCFD and ISSB.


Internal Support And Implementation

  • Develop internal training materials to raise levels of understanding and awareness of the Group’s environmental (climate and nature) impact and strategy and act as point of contact and key advisor for environmental issues.
  • Leading support for LBU environmental initiative implementation, acting as a focal point for all climate and nature related issues and queries raised to Group’s environmental strategy.
  • Support other Sustainability efforts across the Group to ensure alignment and coherent approach, including but not limited to responsible investments, risks and compliance, government relations, technology, HR, products and services teams.
  • Support employee engagement activities
  • Support teams within integration of environment into their strategy and priorities which, includes knowledge sharing and handling information requests.
  • Support functional teams to assess, interpret, implement and internally communicate relevant climate and nature developments.
  • Contribute to business planning, ensuring that organisational business planning explicitly considers Prudential environmental strategy and certain climate scenarios, with appropriate climate sensitivities being identified and documented.


Core Competencies Required

  • A degree in environmental science, MBA or equivalent
  • Extensive experience and proven track record in effective delivery of climate and nature strategies in-house
  • Ability to engage at senior level in a strategic way, with a proven track record of change management in sustainability
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with ability to create meaningful collaborations across teams and geographies
  • Extensive experience in climate disclosures, including transition planning, CDP, TCFD and ISSB. Strong knowledge in climate scenario analysis
  • Strong knowledge of climate risk, regulatory practices, and industry direction in relation to climate risk
  • Able to pay close attention to detail and accuracy without losing the ‘bigger picture’ view in the context of materiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexibly deal with workloads, priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong personal interest in climate and nature topics
  • Knowledge of climate policy, and good understanding of mover and shakers in the space
  • Good understanding on disclosure requirements across ASEAN.
  • Experience in emerging markets is a plus
