To leverage the transformative potential of AI, the National AI Office (NAIO) will be established by the Ministry of Digital as the central authority to advance Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) agenda, positioning the country as a key influencer in ASEAN’s digital landscape. During its developmental stage, the NAIO will be incubated within MyDIGITAL Corporation.

The National AI Office will play a pivotal role in shaping AI-related policies, promoting cutting-edge research, and ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies. With a strong emphasis on fostering cross-sector collaboration, the office will drive AI innovation for the benefit of the rakyat, government, and industries.

By spearheading innovative initiatives, the NAIO aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of AI adoption in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its leadership in advancing AI for national and regional progress.

Job Overview

Executives for the AI Policy Lab Division, NAIO may be assigned to either the AI Policy & Governance Unit, the AI Assessment, Validation & Compliance Unit or the AI Awareness & Acculturation Unit depending on skillset and competency. Executives play a key role in supporting the manager, director, and CEO in executing projects, facilitating stakeholder engagements, and contributing to the overall strategy for advancing AI technologies in Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

Policy & Governance

Assist in the development and refinement of AI policy frameworks that align with national objectives and international standards.

Support the drafting of guidelines, reports, and recommendations on AI governance to inform decision-makers within the government, industries, and civil society.

Conduct research on global AI policy trends and provide insights to strengthen Malaysia’s AI policy and governance frameworks.

AI Assessment, Validation & Compliance

Assist in conducting assessments of emerging AI technologies to determine their viability and alignment with the National AI Policy.

AI Awareness & Acculturation

Contribute to the design and execution of initiatives aimed at raising awareness about AI technologies across various sectors.

Assist in organizing outreach programs, workshops, and campaigns to promote a culture of AI adoption and innovation.

Develop content and materials for public awareness and educational programs focused on the safe and effective use of AI.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

Support the coordination of stakeholder meetings, workshops, and events to ensure effective engagement with government agencies, businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.

Assist in maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to foster collaboration on AI initiatives.

Help communicate the objectives and outcomes of AI-related programs to stakeholders in clear and impactful ways.

Research & Reporting

Assist in preparing reports, position papers, and briefing materials for internal and external stakeholders.

Support the creation of presentations and materials for leadership to communicate AI policy and strategic directions effectively.

Project Management

Assist in planning, executing, and tracking projects related to AI policy, compliance, or awareness initiatives.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with organizational goals.

Monitor the progress of AI-related initiatives and provide regular updates to the manager and director.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Law, Data Science, Technology, Communications, or a related field.

1-3 years of experience in policy development, technology governance, project management, or related roles (entry-level candidates with strong internship experience may be considered).

Understanding of AI technologies, governance frameworks, or public policy processes is an advantage.

Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to produce clear reports, policy briefs, and presentations.

Organizational skills to help manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Adaptability

Flexibility to work across different units within the National AI Office, depending on project needs.
