FRONTEND ENGINEER

We are looking for a Mid-Senior Frontend Engineer (part-time or full-time) who is commercially minded and user-focused. You’ll join a small, collaborative team where autonomy, creativity, and continuous learning are core values.

You’ll be responsible for building and refining user interfaces that power Scismic’s products from early design exploration to production-ready implementation. You’ll work closely with our product and engineering teams to turn ideas into intuitive, responsive, and scalable web experiences. You will be expected to attend meetings in US, UK, and Malaysia operating hours as needed. The hours for this role are 6AM-3PM.

Your initial focus will be on frontend development and UX/UI design for a new product launch. Over time, you’ll take on modernization and restructuring work, helping to evolve our existing systems as we move from a monolithic architecture toward microservices.

At Scismic, we follow an Agile development process, working in sprints with daily standups, regular retrospectives, and a strong emphasis on collaboration, learning, and excellence.

Title and compensation will be commensurate based on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, design, and implement high-quality, maintainable frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and modern web tooling or equivalent.
• Build intuitive, responsive user interfaces that deliver excellent user experiences.
• Create and iterate UI designs and wireframes in Figma or Whimsical when needed, based on client or business feedback.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate RESTful or GraphQL APIs, ensuring smooth data flow.
• Modernize and refactor existing frontend components to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Write clean, testable code and perform thorough debugging and optimization for speed, security, and accessibility.
• Conduct code reviews, share knowledge, and support peers through mentoring and feedback.
• Follow OWASP security and data protection best practices in all development work.
• Contribute ideas for new features, UX improvements, and internal process enhancements.
• Participate actively in Agile sprints, daily standups, and planning sessions to align on deliverables and timelines.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of professional experience in frontend development with React and TypeScript.
• Solid understanding of UX design and frontend performance optimization, and experience creating and refining UI/UX flows and mockups using Figma or Whimsical.
• Experience collaborating with backend engineers and integrating REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Experience building dashboards, internal tools, or B2B web applications.
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES2023+), CSS, and responsive design principles.
• Proficiency with key React ecosystem tools:
• Redux Toolkit or Zustand for state management
• React Query for async data handling
• React Hook Form for forms
• React Router for navigation
• Highly experienced with Git (GitHub/GitLab) for version control and JIRA or similar tools for Agile project management.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate feedback from non-technical stakeholders into actionable design and code improvements.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage projects independently within a small, fast-moving team.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience developing mobile applications with React Native.
• Experience with Tailwind CSS, Next.js, or Vue.js.
• Experience building or maintaining design systems or reusable component libraries.
• Experience with data visualization, ML, or performance optimization
