To leverage the transformative potential of AI, the National AI Office (NAIO) will be established by the Ministry of Digital as the central authority to advance Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) agenda, positioning the country as a key influencer in ASEAN’s digital landscape. During its developmental stage, the NAIO will be incubated within MyDIGITAL Corporation.

The National AI Office will play a pivotal role in shaping AI-related policies, promoting cutting-edge research, and ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies. With a strong emphasis on fostering cross-sector collaboration, the office will drive AI innovation for the benefit of the rakyat, government, and industries.

By spearheading innovative initiatives, the NAIO aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of AI adoption in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its leadership in advancing AI for national and regional progress.

Position Overview
The Head of Agency/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National AI Office will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, implement strategic policies, and ensure alignment with the objectives of the Ministry of Digital. The Head of Agency/CEO will be instrumental in shaping the direction of the office, fostering a positive corporate culture, and establishing strong external relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Leadership

Manage the daily operations of the National AI Office, ensuring efficient and effective functioning in line with established policies and strategies from the Ministry of Digital.

Strategic Positioning

Ensure the strategic positioning of the National AI Office within the broader digital landscape and foster a robust corporate culture that promotes innovation and collaboration.

Resource Management

Oversee resource allocation and budget management, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Goal Setting and Review

Define corporate goals, objectives, and operational standards; regularly review and adjust targets to align with the evolving landscape of AI and digital policy.

External Relations

Develop and maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, government agencies, investors, and other relevant organizations.

Spokesperson Duties

Serve as the primary spokesperson for the National AI Office on all matters related to AI, clearly communicating the office’s positions and initiatives to various audiences.

Reporting and Accountability

Prepare and submit the annual report and financial accounts to the Ministry of Digital, along with any additional reports as requested.

Additional Responsibilities

Undertake any other tasks or assignments as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Ministry of Digital, adapting to the needs of the office and the digital ecosystem.
