Our Role:
Ensure Graymont maintains its compliance with Company and regulatory requirements to operate and achieve world class health, safety and environment (HSE) performance across its sites and operations in Malaysia and Philippines.
Key focus areas the role will include:
- Foster a mature safety culture across SEA where people are looking out for their own and their co-workers’ health and safety.
- Provide guidance to site managers/HSE personnel to implement Graymont’s HSE Management System and associated programs, monitor their implementation, and ensure compliance with Graymont HSE Standards and relevant HSE regulatory requirements.
- Support and train regional users on company HSE system use (including but not limited to SIRS, EIRS, ECATS, TSIR).
- Partner with site managers/HSE personnel to drive a sustained reduction in safety and environmental incidents, helping ensure effective risk management, appropriate training, competency verification, and implementation of best practice.
- Provide expert advice and support by monitoring HSE and sustainability performance and key metrics, identifying trends, and recommending improvements.
- Support the regional execution of global HSE and sustainability initiatives to deliver outcomes aligned to Graymont’s strategic objectives.
- Support safety, environmental and operating permitting and auditing projects in collaboration with Graymont regional and functional leaders and, where required, liaise with regulatory authorities such as DOSH.
- Support sites in proactive and value-adding community and regulator engagement that maintains and strengthens Graymont’s reputation.
- Assist with preparing reporting materials as required including for regulators, progress on key projects at regularly scheduled meetings, and actively participate in key forums including APAC HSE team meetings.
- Guide and support safety and environmental incident investigations, helping to identify and implement corrective and preventative measures, including organisational factors.
- Influence, mentor, coach and develop regional peers on HSE matters to help ensure compliance with Company and regulatory HSE requirements.
- Role model the Graymont values and support implementation of sustainability programs and initiatives within the region.
- Serve as first point of contact and/or escalation for relevant operational HSE issues that require escalation beyond site.
- Provide specialist HSE services, training and technical advice to Operations, other functions as required.
- Build strong relationships with Operations/Functional/Project team members to influence delivery of HSE priorities and help achieve world class outcomes.
Outcomes
- All SEA sites meet Graymont Safety and Environment Standards and the relevant HSE regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated improvements in safety culture maturity across SEA sites.
- All relevant permits are identified and obtained in a timely manner across SEA.
- SEA sites and projects are provided with appropriate HSE and sustainability guidance, training, support.
- HSE and Sustainability outcomes are aligned to the Graymont strategy and are delivered through cross-functional collaboration and partnership with key regional and functional leaders across the business.
- Positive, proactive and value-adding relationships with key external stakeholders including regulators and local community.
- Compliance with regulatory reporting in the region.
- Compliance with Company and regulatory HSE requirements and Graymont HSE Management System.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have the following attributes and qualifications:
Essential
- A formal tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, environmental science/engineering or related discipline.
- Solid and proven health, safety and environmental experience that may have been gained in the resource, manufacturing or heavy industry sector or equivalent transferrable experience and skills from another industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Green Book holder (current).
Desirable
- Well-developed analytical & technical skills for data interpretation, review & reporting.
- Sound understanding of current health, safety and environmental legislation, trends, emerging issues and Company requirements.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office applications and experience effectively utilising safety software.
- Strong negotiation, influencing and team building skills.
- Good presentation skills.
