Intern II

PPG's IT Operations Center (ITOC) is seeking a student or emerging professional to join our high-impact global team. As an ITOC Analyst, you will be part of a dynamic environment supporting PPG’s mission-critical infrastructure. This role focuses on monitoring, incident response, server administration, and the resolution of IT systems and network-related issues across a global enterprise environment.

You will be responsible for handling real-time alerts, managing server health, ensuring data integrity through backup and recovery processes, and working closely with vendors and internal teams to maintain operational stability.

Main Responsibilities

Analyse, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure and network alerts using monitoring tools and dashboards.

• Monitor, manage, and maintain the health and performance of Windows and Linux servers.
• Perform and verify scheduled backups, support disaster recovery procedures and recovery testing.
• Follow knowledge base articles to resolve incidents and fulfil service requests.
• Supervise and manage the resolution of technical issues by working closely with cross-functional IT teams.
• Engage with ISPs and other service providers to support, troubleshoot, and escalate connectivity issues.
• Coordinate remotely with local site contacts to resolve circuit, hardware, or configuration problems.
• Escalate critical issues appropriately to specialized support or engineering teams.
• Complete project tasks as assigned by the ITOC Shift Supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.
  
  

Requirements

• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
• Experience in network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Palo Alto, Prognosis)
• Familiarity with firewalls, switches, routers, and load balancers (Cisco, Fortinet)
• Knowledge of VPN, WAN, LAN, and SD-WAN technologies
• Ability to troubleshoot network outages, latency, and performance issues
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments
• Hands-on experience in server provisioning, configuration, and maintenance
• Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures (Veeam, Nasuni)
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Understanding of patching and security hardening best practices
• Exposure to Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file/print servers
