Huntsman Corporation is now looking for a dynamic individual as a Legal Counsel.
The job purpose includes;
Provide legal advice and support principally across APAC to our business divisions (Polyurethanes, Advanced Materials and Performance Products) and Corporate Function Groups
Promote legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company
Ensure and promote, together with Huntsman management, that all activities are in line with environmental, health and safety, international trade control and Huntsman’s ethical standards
The ideal candidate will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
As a Legal Counsel You Will
Complete all responsibilities included in this Job Description, along with any other tasks that are assigned to you
Maintain a satisfactory and consistent quality of work and client service
Efficient delivery of cost-effective legal services to our businesses, either directly (internal resources) or indirectly (manage outside resources), by helping our businesses achieve their goals by being efficient as well as cost effective
Stewardship of corporate assets for the benefit of all the stakeholders by managing risk
Collaborate with peers and accepting the division of labor
Communicate with management about updates or challenges
Act in the best interests of Huntsman
Maintain your independence as a member of the legal profession
Comply with your legal and regulatory obligations, including in relation to continuing professional development
Act in accordance with Huntsman’s Values of honesty, integrity, respect and responsibility at all times
Advise on a broad range of legal matters, including contracts, transactions, regulations and claims
Lead negotiations across a broad range of commercial matters relating to both procurement and supply, drawing on the expertise of peers in the regional legal team as required
Draft and review a broad range of legal documents (e.g., contracts, terms and conditions, quality requirements, training materials, compliance instructions)
Design and deliver training to associates on legal topics and procedures such as competition law, dawn-raid procedures and use of various global legal team e-tools
Under the direction of the Head of Litigation, supervise litigation and other matters handled in coordination with outside counsel
Liaise with Huntsman associates at all levels within the organization
Stay up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect Huntsman and the chemical industry
Support the global legal team in ongoing continuous improvement initiatives and harmonization of working practices across the region
What skills and experiences are we looking for?
Lawyer qualified to practice in Malaysia
Able to work autonomously but with the full support of the APAC Commercial legal team and wider Legal team
Proficiency in IT applications, including MS Office
Excellent drafting skills
Excellent communication skills
Well-developed negotiation skills with the ability to lead negotiations as necessary
Strong presentation skills
Proactive and solution oriented
The ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand
The ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the organization
Solid experience in general commercial law work (e.g. sales, purchasing, competition law, tort and corporate law)
Able to work in a global matrix organization
