To leverage the transformative potential of AI, the National AI Office (NAIO) will be established by the Ministry of Digital as the central authority to advance Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) agenda, positioning the country as a key influencer in ASEAN’s digital landscape. During its developmental stage, the NAIO will be incubated within MyDIGITAL Corporation.

The National AI Office will play a pivotal role in shaping AI-related policies, promoting cutting-edge research, and ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies. With a strong emphasis on fostering cross-sector collaboration, the office will drive AI innovation for the benefit of the rakyat, government, and industries.

By spearheading innovative initiatives, the NAIO aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of AI adoption in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its leadership in advancing AI for national and regional progress.

Position Overview
The Manager of AI Open Innovation under the AI Innovation Exchange Division of NAIO will be responsible for the acceleration and adoption of AI solutions and technologies in Malaysia by fostering collaboration and open innovation. The Manager will work closely with the Director of AI Innovation Exchange and cross-functional teams to establish an ecosystem for domestic AI solution providers to be market-ready and promote the widespread use of AI across industries and society. This role includes building partnerships with stakeholders, driving strategic projects, and promoting thought leadership in the AI sector.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute a strategic plan to drive the adoption of AI solutions, technologies, and facilities in Malaysia.

Ensure alignment with the National AI Policy while promoting innovation and market-readiness of domestic AI providers.

Identify opportunities to introduce new AI technologies and approaches to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global AI landscape.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.

Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring the National AI Office’s activities are aligned with their needs and national objectives.

Foster collaborations and partnerships with industries and academia to promote the development and adoption of AI solutions.

Project & Program Management

Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of projects and pilot programs that showcase the practical applications of AI in key sectors.

Ensure that projects demonstrate measurable impact, from technology deployment to user adoption in the market.

Monitor project progress, allocate resources, and manage timelines to ensure successful outcomes.

Thought Leadership & Open Innovation

Promote thought leadership by conducting research, producing reports, and organizing events, discussions, and forums to raise awareness and understanding of AI technologies.

Lead efforts to foster open innovation within the AI ecosystem, creating opportunities for collaboration between AI developers, users, and researchers.

Provide strategic input on the AI innovation landscape and emerging trends to inform the direction of the AI Innovation Exchange Division.

Resource Management

Manage the budget, staff, and resources within the Innovation Exchange Division to ensure sustainable operations.

Oversee team performance and development, ensuring that resources are efficiently allocated to support ongoing projects and initiatives.

Drive recruitment and talent management efforts to build a high-performing team that supports the AI innovation agenda.

Global Collaboration

Establish and maintain partnerships with other National AI Offices and international AI organizations to share best practices and collaborate on global AI initiatives.

Represent Malaysia in international AI forums, fostering relationships that contribute to Malaysia’s leadership in AI innovation and adoption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of AI application and their impact on society and the economy.
  • Knowledge of basic algorithms, object-oriented and functional design principles, and best-practice patterns.
  • Strong understanding of AI technologies, open innovation principles, and technology adoption trends.
  • Proven track record in driving AI-related projects and working with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams, budgets, and complex project portfolios.
  • Ability to translate technical AI concepts into practical applications and communicate them effectively to a variety of audiences.
