Role Brief:


The National Ocean Freight Manager is responsible for all aspects of the product within the country including, but not limited to, operations excellence, carrier management, commercial development, and general management. All of these must be achieved while working within the matrix management structure and in conjunction with regional and local management.



Responsible for the day to day management, administration and analysis of the Global FCL and LCL Product for Global Forwarding. Key duties would be inclusive of Procurement, Pricing, Yield and Product development of services on a CFS to CFS, Port to Port and/or Door to Door basis.


Development and implementation of KPIs with a focus on delivering value along with the lowest cost per transaction for the product globally. Creating & delivering best in class value for Toll and our customers, meeting and exceeding targets for profitability, volume and job count.



The Opportunity:

Operation Excellence

  • Meetings, Assessment, and Reporting: Conduct regular meetings with country and local personnel to implement regional and global product strategies, assess branch-level product staff, compile and submit Monthly Management Reports (MMR), and conduct studies and surveys as required.
  • Operational Excellence and Best Practices: Liaise with the regional product management team to define and refine workflows, oversee operational excellence aligned with BP&O policy, ensure a robust space management program for trade lanes, maintain product schedules, and achieve yield and GP/unit targets.



Carrier/Supplier Relations and Procurement

  • Oversee the Core Carrier Program compliance, procure the best buy, develop and manage strategic and tactical relationships with core carriers, benchmark performance against global standards, conduct regular service reviews with carriers/suppliers, and engage constantly with Regional VPs on specific trade lanes.



Business Development and Finance

  • Assist with budget preparation, monitor financial performance, ensure profitability, report financial issues, drive GP growth, support sales initiatives, develop account strategies, and manage pricing for Import and Export Departments.



Product Development

  • Continuously evaluate markets to ensure appropriate product offerings, support trade lane development, establish and enforce country and regional hub strategies, monitor and integrate co-load volumes, and ensure compliance with TGF documentation and policies.



General Management & Administration

  • Oversee company representation, staff management, compliance, and operational control while maintaining carrier and customer relationships, mentoring employees, monitoring costs, and ensuring effective communication and problem-solving across the region.



What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Over 10 years of experience in the Freight Forwarding & Ocean Freight industry, with at least 5 years in commercial roles involving pricing and Global/regional tenders.
  • Proven track record of effective internal and external communications and successful project completion, demonstrating sound decision making, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Strong understanding of management, leadership, budgets, project planning and management, with exposure to sales environments at a Corporate Customer level.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of government regulatory requirements and business concepts, with a focus on organizational profitability.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including presentation skills, and strong negotiation capabilities.
  • Competent in preparing and manipulating spreadsheet price modelling data, creating PowerPoint presentations, and using reporting information systems.
