ABOUT THE UNIT
The Community Outreach (CO)Research Unit collaboratively develops intervention programmes to promote early detection and improve access to cancer care for patients seeking treatment at Ministry of Health hospitals. The CO together with other research units in CRMY intends to close the gap in cancer care and our current focus is on breast cancer. The reality today is that who you are and where you live could mean the difference in cancer survival. It isn’t fair. But we can change this by developing i) most effective healthcare system changes for improving survival and ii) innovative and cost-effective tools for enabling early detection of cancer in B40 communities.
SCOPE / PURPOSE OF JOB
The role of the Project Manager encompasses two critical components: Firstly, it involves spearheading Primary Care Implementation Science Research for Early Detection of Breast Cancer, where responsibilities include designing and overseeing research projects to assess innovative breast cancer detection strategies' effectiveness, feasibility, and scalability. Secondly, the role focuses on Primary Healthcare Professional Engagement & Capacity Development, entailing the creation and delivery of comprehensive training programs for primary care professionals on breast cancer awareness, screening guidelines, and rapid referral protocols collaborating with experts, conducting training sessions, and providing ongoing support aimed at bolstering professionals' competency in risk identification and result interpretation. A core responsibility includes monitoring and evaluating training effectiveness& preparing insightful reports that will drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities:
Primary Care Implementation Science Research for Early Detection of Cancer
- Assist in designing and overseeing the implementation science research projects aimed at evaluating the effectiveness, feasibility, and scalability of innovative breast cancer detection strategies within primary care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, clinicians, community partners, and other stakeholders to develop research protocols, study designs, and data collection instruments aligned with implementation science principles.
- Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, to generate actionable insights and evidence-based recommendations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships with healthcare organizations, clinics, and research institutions to facilitate access to study populations, resources, and infrastructure necessary for successful project implementation.
- Conduct literature reviews, gap analyses, and needs assessments to identify opportunities and barriers related to the adoption and implementation of breast cancer early detection interventions.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure milestones are met and objectives are achieved in accordance with grant requirements and organizational goals.
Primary Healthcare Professional Engagement & Capacity Development
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for healthcare professionals in primary care settings, including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, on breast cancer awareness, screening guidelines, and rapid referral protocols.
- Conduct training sessions, workshops, and continuing education programs to enhance healthcare professionals' competency in identifying breast cancer risk factors, performing clinical breast exams, and interpreting screening results.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to healthcare professionals to ensure the successful implementation of rapid referral processes.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and project interventions through data collection, analysis, and performance metrics tracking.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations based on project outcomes to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement efforts.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Educated to a Master’s degree level, with relevant experience in project management
- Proven work experience of at least 5 years (experience in public health, implementation science and/or community outreach would be a strong advantage)
- Strong leadership, decision-making and negotiation skills
- Strategic mindset and ability to foresee upcoming opportunities and threats
- Resourceful and able to form strategic partnership with related stakeholders and businesses
- Can manage remote/distributed team
- Ability to effectively manage people without a formal authority
- Independent and responsible individual, able to multitask and work in fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work under pressure
- Proven capability in hands-on problem solving, with the ability to generate ideas and solutions; self-motivated and results-driven; with a genuine interest in implementing innovative strategies in healthcare
- The ability to prioritize own workload and work to deadlines and assume full responsibilities within role
