Position Overview
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the workplace complies with all relevant health and safety regulations to prevent injuries and accidents. This role involves conducting daily safety inspections, training employees on safety practices, and collaborating with management to improve safety procedures in compliance with local laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and suggest improvements.
- Compliance Management: Ensure that all company operations comply with Malaysia’s safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA 1994.
- Accident Investigation: Investigate any incidents or near misses, determine causes, develop preventive measures, and report findings to management.
- Employee Training: Develop and implement safety training programs to ensure employees understand and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures.
- Safety Equipment Management: Oversee and inspect all safety equipment, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and personal protective equipment, to ensure they are in good condition.
- Risk Assessment: Collaborate with departments to conduct risk assessments and establish safety measures for high-risk activities.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans to ensure safe evacuation and risk mitigation during emergencies.
Key Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or a related field.
- Certification: Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Professional Certification (e.g., Green Book Holder) is preferred.
- Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in workplace safety management, preferably in manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of Malaysia’s occupational safety and health laws and regulations, with expertise in risk assessment and accident investigation.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly conveying safety information and collaborating with teams.
