To leverage the transformative potential of AI, the National AI Office (NAIO) will be established by the Ministry of Digital as the central authority to advance Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) agenda, positioning the country as a key influencer in ASEAN’s digital landscape. During its developmental stage, the NAIO will be incubated within MyDIGITAL Corporation.

The National AI Office will play a pivotal role in shaping AI-related policies, promoting cutting-edge research, and ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies. With a strong emphasis on fostering cross-sector collaboration, the office will drive AI innovation for the benefit of the rakyat, government, and industries.

By spearheading innovative initiatives, the NAIO aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of AI adoption in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its leadership in advancing AI for national and regional progress.

Position Overview
The Director of AI Innovation Exchange will provide strategic leadership and direction to promote open innovation and facilitate the adoption of AI technologies in Malaysia. This role is pivotal in ensuring the success and impact of the NAIO by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and driving market readiness for domestic AI solution providers.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan to drive and support the adoption of trusted AI solutions, technologies, and facilities across Malaysia. Foster a robust AI ecosystem by supporting local AI product development and cultivating export-ready AI providers.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, businesses, academic institutions, industries, and civil society organizations to foster collaboration. Drive the development of market-oriented AI solutions in partnership with industry stakeholders.

Project Management

Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of projects and pilot programs that demonstrate the practical applications of AI technologies in key sectors. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet established quality standards. Translate innovation into real-world applications through business use-cases.

Thought Leadership

Promote thought leadership by conducting research and producing reports on AI trends and applications. Organize events, discussions, and forums to raise awareness and enhance understanding of AI technologies. Develop sector-specific best practices aligned with the NAIO governance framework.

Lead efforts in AI architecture and team formation, including data, research, strategy, and ethics. Provide subject matter expertise to support agency-level AI implementation.

Resource Management

Effectively manage the budget, staff, and resources of the NAIO to ensure sustainable operations while foster a productive and innovative work environment.

Global Collaboration

Collaborate with other National AI Offices globally to share best practices, insights, and contribute to international AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Possess a unique blend of technical expertise in AI/Machine Learning/Data Science and Analytics and advanced knowledge of AI infrastructure and its application.
• Extensive experience in senior-level roles in change management, transformation, or strategic leadership, ideally in a large organization.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Certification in change management is a significant advantage.
