KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Head of Legal will be a key member of our executive team, providing strategic legal counsel and leadership to support our business objectives and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will oversee all legal affairs for the company, managing external advisors, and playing a critical role in risk management, contract negotiations, and corporate governance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic legal advice and guidance to senior management and other stakeholders on a wide range of issues including contracts, transactions, regulatory compliance, litigation, and risk management.
- Oversee the development, negotiation, and execution of contracts and agreements related to property acquisition, development, financing, leasing, construction, and sales.
- Lead the legal due diligence process for new projects and transactions, identifying and mitigating legal risks and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other advisors, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective legal services that meet the company's needs.
- Stay abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the property development industry, providing proactive advice and recommendations to address legal and regulatory developments.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to promote legal compliance and mitigate legal risks across the organization.
- Oversee corporate governance matters including board meetings, corporate filings, and compliance with corporate governance guidelines and best practices.
- Collaborate with other departments including finance, operations, and risk management to identify and address legal issues impacting the business.
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution matters, working closely with external counsel and internal stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Mentor and develop legal team members, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with significant experience in real estate law, property development, and/or construction law.
- Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice and counsel to senior management and other stakeholders on complex legal issues.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts and agreements related to property development, financing, construction, and leasing.
- Deep knowledge of real estate law, land use regulations, zoning laws, environmental regulations, and other legal issues impacting property development projects.
- Experience managing litigation and dispute resolution matters, including working with external counsel to develop and implement effective legal strategies.
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to lead and develop a team of legal professionals and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders and build relationships with internal and external partners.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Sarawakian Preferred, or Malaysians willing to relocate to Miri, Sarawak.
